Hampstead Branch Library Summer Reading Program

June 1st through July 13th

 

 

 

Toddler Time

Every Monday @ 10:00

Ages 3 and Under

At toddler time we will sing a few songs and rhymes, learn some ASL, and share a book or two.

 

June 4 – We’ll start our summer off with some noise by reading Toot toot zoom! by Phyllis Root

June 11- Sharpen your observational skills and help us find that Green Sheep in Where is Green Sheep? by Fox and Horack.

June 18 – Toddler’s and caterpillars grow very quickly and eat all the time, so celebrate that while we read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

June 25 – What make a day a good day? Let’s find out with A Good Day by Kevin Henkes

July 2 – Barnyards are very noisy places, so we’ll do our best animals noises and read Barnyard Banter by Denise Fleming.

July 9 – It’s time to get moving and play pretend as we read If You’re a Monster and You Know It by David Emeberly.

June 5thWe’ll read about a girl and a bear who loves music, and how music is best shared with other people.

June 19thSummer is full of tasty treats, so this Tuesday we’re all about food! If you’ve ever swallowed a watermelon seed, be sure not to miss this story time about an alligator who swallows a seed and a caterpillar who won’t stop eating.

Stop, Drop, Art

Every Wednesday @ 2:00 – 5:00

All Ages

Drop by for a self-directed art project or coloring sheet. Relax and enjoy the process of creation without worrying about the results. Different crafts will be completed each week. All ages are welcome to participate.

 

 

Wiggle Worms

Fridays @ 10:00

All Ages

June 8, June 22 and July 6

Join us on every other Friday morning for a movement and music based program for kids. We will read a short story, stretch, dance, and play a few games to get our bodies and minds moving.

Challenge Accepted

June 15 and 29 + July 13 and 20

Ages 10+

Our program of challenges will keep you sharp this summer starting with your music knowledge. The next week’s challenge will be determined at the end of each meeting, so don’t miss out. We’ll also enjoy a light snack.

 

July 10th Summer Reading Finale

10:30 and 4:30

The summer is ending, so join us for a special story time with silly rhymes and singing with the books Silly Tilly by Jerry Spinelli and Dooby Dooby Moo by Doreen Cronin. We’ll have an indoor obstacle course you can complete for a special addition to your reading chain.

Story Time

Tuesday @10:30

Ages 3-6

 

May 1

Wear your favorite or craziest hat to story time as we read some hat centric books. Bear is trying to find his hat in I want my Hat Back by Jon Klassen, and a fish has stolen a hat in I Found a Hat by Jon Klassen. We’ll play a game with some hats.

 

May 8

It’s time to brush up on your alphabet with LMNO PEAS by Keith Baker and Chicka Chicka Boom by Bill Martin. We’ll complete an alphabet craft.

 

May 15

There will be no Story Time this week.

 

May 22

Max has a hard time adjusting to a new family member in Say Hello to Zorro by Carter Goodrich. We’ll also enjoy a retelling of an old rhyme in One, Two That’s My Shoe! By Lisa Murray. Well complete a dog craft.

 

May 29

A woodpecker will get carried away pecking in Peck, Peck, Peck by Lucy Cousins, and this frog’s big mouth gets him into trouble in Wide Mouthed Frog by Keith Faulkner. We will make a wide mouthed frog puppet.

May 7

We’ll read about different dogs in Dogs by Emily Gravett and read a retelling of an old nursery rhyme in 1-2 That’s My Shoe By Allison Murray.

May 14

There will be no toddler time this week.

May 21

Toddler Time is all about alphabets as we read Chicka Chicka Boom by Bill Martin Jr and practice our alphabet.

May 28

There will be no toddler time this week.

April Programs @ Hampstead Library!!

Story Time

Tuesdays @ 10:30

Ages 1-4

 

April 3rd: Prepare for some troublesome cows with a typewriter in Click, Clack, Moo by Doreen Cronin and learn about different farmyard animals in Spots, Feathers, and Curly Tails by Nancy Tafuri. We will make a cow craft.

April 10th: It’s National Library Week, so come to story time to read Wolves by Emily Gravett about a rabbit who learns about wolves from a library book. We will also read about a girl who love stories in  Lola Love Stories by Anna Mcquinn.

April 17th: Solve the problem of why Ernest the Moose Doesn’t Fit by Catherine Rayner and ponder another problem involving a porcupine who loves balloons in Perfectly Percy. We will have fun with some balloons.

April 24th: Story time goes to the dogs as we talk about different kinds of canine in Dogs by Emily Gravett. Then we’ll enjoy the troubled times of dog siblings Boot and Shoe (by Marla Frazee) when a squirrel’s shenanigans makes them lose each other. We will color some dogs.

 

National Library Week @ Hampstead!

Libraries Lead…

 

Tuesday April 10th:

Libraries lead in…literacy.

10:30 Story Time: Show your love for libraries by joining us for our weekly story time with a special library theme.

4:30 Next Chapter, Please: Pop in for some popcorn and a few chapters from The Magician’s Elephant by Kate DiCamillo. Any age that can sit and listen is welcome to attend. We will start at 4:30.

Wednesday, April 11th:

Libraries lead in…art.

3:30 BYOP: Bring your own paintbrush, and we’ll we provide the paint. We’ll be doing process art so your paint brush can be anything from a rock to a Q-tip. Registration is required and all ages are welcome. Stop by anytime between 3:30 and 5:00.

Friday, April 13th:

Libraries lead in…community.

4:00 Family Game Night: Wrap up your week with some board games, puzzles, or coloring sheets. Bring your favorite board or card game or play one of ours. Family not required for attendance, and all ages are welcome.

All Week: Best in Books: Share your favorite book with us and we’ll add it to our “Best in Books” display. We’ll be displaying them all month.
