“Imagine Your Story”

Thursday, June 4th at 10:30 am
Juliette Hampton Morgan Memorial Library’s Global Classroom
Join MCCPL for the Summer @ Your Library Kickoff event.
Science Tellers will be here ONLINE with “Dragons”!
A fun interactive program from home or in the library
through Zoom. Participants will be able to interact with
the host through polls/quizzes, teach an experiment to
do at home, and answer questions. Come to the library
for even more fun science experiments! This program is
funded by the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery.

This Year’s theme: “ Imagine Your Story”
Meet and Greet
Today All participants will be given information/handouts about this year
SRP. We will lay out our plans and what we want to accomplish over the SRP
period. We will answer your questions and explain any concerns. Our SRP
will consist of story time, arts and crafts, games, activities, checking out
Books, and experiments. The children will also make name tags to use during
the program.
The benefits of summer reading programming for children:
• Children are motivated to read.
• Children develop positive attitudes about reading, books, and the library.
• Children maintain their reading skills during summer vacation.
• Children have access to experiences that further their sense of discovery.
• Children have access to experiences through which they can learn to work cooperatively.

BOOK: “King Jack and the Dragon” by: Peter Bently
Synopsis: —- Night is falling and playtime is nearly over. But brave King Jack and
his faithful knights Zak and Caspar are still protecting their castle fort
from fierce dragons and terrible beasts. This captivating, joyful
make-believe adventure is the perfect bedtime story for brave children
Craft: We will make and decorate paper swords

Activity: Children will have a color sheet relating to the book that they will color and I
will hang up

Game: Hunt the gold and silver treasure for the dragon

BOOK: “The Mermaid” by: Jan Brett
Synopsis: —– When Kiniro, a young mermaid, comes upon a gorgeous house
made of seashells and coral, she is so curious that she goes inside.
She’s thrilled to find a just-right breakfast, pretty little chair, and,
best of all, a comfy bed that rocks in the current.

But when the Octopus family returns home, they are not happy to
find that someone has been eating their food and breaking their things.
Baby has the biggest shock when she finds the mermaid asleep in her
bed! Luckily, shock turns to happiness when Kiniro gives her a thoughtful
gift before escaping from the twenty-four arms coming her way.

Craft: Making and decorating a fish

Activity: Explore different sizes of seashells

Game: Have a sack race with the children

Synopsis: —- What does it take to make a tough tower? Gather some
supplies and try it out for yourself! Discover tips and ideas
on how to build the best tower around!
Craft: The children will make picture frames out of beads and pipe cleansers

Activity: Students will build towers using tooth picks and marshmallows

Game: Marshmallow Toss

BOOK: “Unicorn: Thinks he’s Pretty Great” by: Bob Shea
Synopsis: —- Ever since Unicorn moved into the neighborhood, Goat has
been feeling out of sorts. Goat thought his bike was cool-until
he saw that Unicorn could fly to school! Goat made marshmallow
squares that almost came out right, but Unicorn made it rain
cupcakes! Unicorn is such a show-off, how can Goat compete?
When Goat and Unicorn share a piece of pizza, Goat learns that
being a unicorn might not be all it’s cracked up to be. And when
Unicorn shows his admiration for Goat, it looks like the beginning
of a beautiful friendship.
Craft: Make Unicorns out of paper plates

Game: Students will play pin the horn on the unicorn

BOOK: “Good Morning Montgomery” by: Janie Steindorff
Synopsis: As an elementary teacher, Janie searched high
and low for a book to teach alliteration, rhyming words
and repetition all in one story. But she couldn’t find
it! So she wrote the book she needed. Janie wrote a
story that teaches not only foundational reading
principles, but also the character, history and legacy
of the wonderful people, places and things in
Montgomery, Alabama—my home.

Craft: We will make a pencil box

Activity: Puzzles of some of the surrounding counties

Game: We will play a hole in one

Friday, July 31st at 10:30 am
Juliette Hampton Morgan Memorial Library
Join us for an all-day fun day! We are closing out the
Summer @ Your Library with performers, games, and fun.
Come to Juliette Hampton Morgan Memorial Library to
check out what we will be up to. Whether online, social
distancing or outdoor fun we will have something for
everyone to be able to enjoy! This is funded by the
Kiwanis Club of Montgomery.
Come out and have fun with your favorite Librarians!
