January 7, 2020 @ 1:00 Kindergarten

            BOOK: “Huff and Puff’s Snowy Day”  by: Jean Warren

Synopsis —-   When two clouds see the children below crying for winter, they  fill their pockets with snow from the Arctic and present the children with a white gift. Book Includes songs to sing and handicraft  activities.

           ACTIVITY: Students will make a cup of hot chocolate

 

 

 

January 14, 2020 @ 11:10 Pre-K

            BOOK: “Our National Holidays” by: Patricia Murphy

                        Synopsis: —-     Explains the reasons for various national patriotic holidays celebrated in the United States including Independence Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving.

            ACTIVITY: The children will make a craft

 

 

January 15, 2020 @ 9:30 6th Grade

             BOOK: “Young Martin’s Promise” Walter Dean Myers

                        Synopsis: —-    Relates events in Martin Luther King, Jr.’s, childhood which sowed the seeds for his activism for equal rights for people, regardless of          their color.

            ACTIVITY: The children will make a craft

 

 

 

January 15, 2020 @ 1:30 1st Grade

                         BOOK: “Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: with Mrs. Park’s Class”  by: Alma Flor Ada

Synopsis —-   The students in Mrs. Park’s class prepare to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and plan to create a mural in his honor. As  they reflect on the values he taught, the students come up with terrific idea for their Martin Luther King Day celebration.

            ACTIVITY: Students will make Book Marks

 

 

 

January 16, 2020 @ 9:30 3rd Grade

             BOOK: “Learning About Dignity from the Life of Martin Luther King, Jr.”

                           Synopsis: —-   A brief biography examining the value of dignity in the life of the Baptist minister and civil rights leader whose philosophy and practice of nonviolent civil disobedience helped African Americans win many battles for equal rights.

            ACTIVITY: The children will make a craft

 

January 16, 2020 @ 1:30 2nd Grade

            BOOK: “Snowballs”  by: Lois Ehlert

Synopsis —-   Snowballs is a simple story depicting what one person does to fill their landscape with snow people—a snow dad, mom, boy, girl, baby, family cat, and even “our dog Spot.” And when the snow melts…well, that’s just part of the story.

            ACTIVITY: The Students will make snowmen from an assortment of craft items

 

January 22, 2020 @ 12:30 4th Grade

             BOOK: “The Jacket I wear in the Snow”  by: Shirley Neitzel

Synopsis —-   Rhyme follows rhyme as layer after layer of winter clothing (“bunchy and hot, wrinkled a lot, stiff in the knee, and too big for me!”) is first put on and then taken off to the relief of the child bundled inside. Clever rebuses and jaunty illustrations make The 

           ACTIVITY: Book discussion questions and make jackets out of construction paper

 

 

January 30, 2020 @1:30 2nd Grade
