Meet the Artist

Johnny Marvin is a self-taught artist from Montgomery. He has had no formal training in art, but who has simply studied art books to develop his talent. He had surgery on his right arm and was afraid he would never be able to regain use of his fingers, but as miracles do occur, he fully recovered.  It was then, a mere two years ago, when he picked up his first brush and pencil since public school days and began to create the beautiful art you see today.

 

Please come meet Mr. Marvin, Wednesday, October 10 at 10:00 am,

in the Coliseum Boulevard Branch Library Conference Room.

His exhibit runs September through October.

Today we will be discussing The Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls.  This is memoir of a dysfunctional family who lived as nomads in the Southwest for a period and who lived in the mining towns of West Virginia.  The father was a brilliant man, but an alcoholic, and the mother was the artistic type who could not stand the responsibility of raising a family leaving the children to learn to fend for themselves.  Then, we will receive our book for November titled, The Wrong Side of Goodbye, by Michael Connelly.

Homework Assistance

October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30

We will offer homework assistance every Tuesday of the month. Our tutors offer assistance in Math, English, and Reading.  Students in grades 1 – 12 are invited.  Please bring your own materials and homework, or the lessons you will need assistance with.  Registration is required of students, and adults who are interested in tutoring are invited to assist, with pre-registration required.

 

Color Coders
