December 2016 @E L Lowder Regional Library
Lowder Regional Library would like to invite everyone to our Holiday Open House on Friday, December 16th, 2016. Our theme this year is “the Night Before Christmas.” We are planning a fantastic slumber party that will start in the morning at 1015AM with Story Time (with a visit from the jolly old elf himself!). The librarians have asked Santa for lots of new books this year so you can bet that they will be wearing their ‘kerchiefs and caps ready a long winter’s nap. We will be having a coloring contest that we will award prizes for the best each hour starting at 11AM and ending at 5PM. We will also have a large search-a-word and a mad lib for patrons to enjoy. At 130pm we will be showing a Holiday Movie and from 4PM to 5PM we will have the Holiday edition of Lowder Lego League (we’re going to see what we can build using only red and green blocks!). During the afternoon we are planning on Christmas Skits starring the Lowder Librarians and old fashioned board games will be available for guests to play.
Stitch and Share will be taking the holidays off. We will not meet again until January 26, 2017. Hope to see you then.
Chess Club wants you every Saturday at 10AM until 1245PM sharp as the library closes at 1PM on Saturdays. If your child or you have ever wanted to learn how to play chess or knows how and wants to join a group we invite everyone to become a member of the Lowder Chess Club. There is no need to pre-register, just show up on Saturday. If Chess Club is canceled we will post a sign on the door as soon as we know ourselves.
Remember that the Ladies of High Tea meet the first Tuesday of each month at 3PM. December’s book choice is Christmas Letters by Debbie Macomber. Our yearly “Pot Luck Munch and Watch” will be this date; however, bringing munchies is not a requirement for attendance. Our Christmas movie will be decided at a later date so mark your December calendars for Tuesday, December 6th, 2016.
Katherine O’Connor often spends her days at a cozy café on Blossom Street in Seattle—where she writes Christmas letters for other people. She’s good at making their everyday lives sound more interesting. More humorous. More dramatic. But for Dr. Wynn Jeffries, who also frequents the café, Christmas means lies and deception. In fact, the renowned child psychologist recommends that parents “bury Santa under the sleigh.” Katherine, however, feels that his parenting philosophy is one big mistake—at least, based on her five-year-old twin nieces, who are being raised according to his “Free Child” methods. She argues with Wynn about his theories, while he argues that her letters are nothing but lies. They disagree about practically everything—and yet, somehow, they don’t really want to stop arguing. As the days—and nights—move closer to Christmas, Katherine and Wynn both discover that love means accepting your differences. And Christmas is about the things you share….
January’s date is Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017 and the Ladies will be reading Killer Honeymoon by G. A. McKevett.
Plus-sized P.I. Savannah Reid and her new husband, Dirk Coulter, were hoping for a little honeymoon excitement, but finding a freshly killed body on the beach wasn’t what they had in mind. To their surprise, the recently deceased is Amelia Northrop, the popular L.A. anchorwoman whose super sexy looks landed her a super wealthy husband. Now, instead of hosting the news, Amelia will be the lead story. The local police clearly don’t want Savannah’s help, so she does a little digging on her own–and what she discovers could blow the case wide open. It seems Amelia crossed more than a few powerful people on her way to the top–and learned the hard way that karma can be a girl’s worst enemy. The question is, who hated Amelia enough to shoot her dead in broad daylight? Savannah will have to find out, before a killer gets away with murder. . .
