October 27   Halloween is near!

Halloween Monster, by Catherine Stock

Tommy is reluctant to dress up and go out on Halloween until his mother

convinces him that there are no real monsters, ghosts, or witches.

On Halloween Night, by Ferida Wolff and Dolores Kozielshi

Thirteen suitably creepy things from witches to snakes and ghosts are counted

in honor of Halloween.

Parent/Preschool Activity Table

Every three weeks we will have a new activity to enhance the five senses and further develop

your child’s thought processes.  This is an activity where the parent and child explore together.

 

 

 

Youth Programs

 

Homework Assistance

Our program meets every Tuesday from 5:00 – 5:45 pm. Our tutors offer assistance in Math, English, and Reading.  Students in grades 1 – 12 are invited.  Please bring your own materials and homework, or the lessons you will need assistance with.

Registration is required of students, and adults who are interested in tutoring are invited to assist, with pre-registration required.

 

Lego League

Lego League is offered the first and third Tuesday in October. (October 4 and October 18)

4:00 – 5:00 pm

Come join the fun and creativity as we build with Legos!

 

Literacy in Music

Literacy in Music is offered the first and third Wednesday in October.

(October 5 and October 19)

4:00 – 4:45 pm

 

Students must be accompanied by their parents and are encouraged to bring stringed instruments (ukulele, guitar, etc.).  Students who do not play a stringed instrument may borrow a rhythm instrument to join in with the music making. Activities which enhance literacy in music, language, and art, will include games, movement, singing, and some crafts.

This course is appropriate for ages 6-9.

 

Coliseum Coloring Club

All ages are invited!

This will be offered the first and third Thursday of each month from 4:00 – 5:30 pm.

October 6 and October 20

Come join our coloring club. Adult level coloring sheets, children’s coloring sheets, crayons, and colored pencils will be provided.

Studies have shown this can be a great stress reducer. Come relax with us!

Weaving for Beginners

Weaving is ongoing, and we are learning as we go. Ms. Hightower will not be here in October, but we have the YouTube videos if we run into problems. You still have time to make a scarf for winter.   We have looms and plenty of yarn. Also, bring any fiber craft projects you are working on that you would like to share.

Adult Book Clubs

  • Southern Charms Book Club3:00 – 4:00 pm 

 

  1. Today we will be discussing, “A Parchment of Leaves”, by Silas House. This is a story of a Cherokee woman and her white husband who, despite many hardships, try to make a life for themselves in the early 1900 Kentucky mountains. Then, we will receive our book for November, “The Secret Chord”, by Geraldine Brooks. This is an historical fiction account of David as he rises from an obscure shepherd to a renowned king.

  3. Eastbrook Mystery Book Club 3:00 – 4:00 pm
  4. Today we will be discussing, “Started Early, Took My Dog”, by Kate Atkinson. This is a story of Tracy, Tilly, and Jackson who are variously accompanied, pursued, or haunted by neglected dogs, unwanted children, and keepers of dark secrets who learn that their past is never history, and that no good deed goes unpunished. Then, we will receive our book, “How the Light Gets In”, by Louise Penny. This is a story of Myrna Landers and Chief Inspector Gamache and the mystery surrounding the disappearance of one of the world’s most famous women.
