            ACTIVITY:  Library Bingo and decorate Football Helmets for Football season.

 

October 3, 2016 @ 1:00 Kindergarten

             BOOK: “Scaredy-Cat, Splat!”

                       Synopsis —-It’s Halloween, and Splat is determined to be the scariest cat in the class.

Unfortunately, he’s just too much of a scaredy-cat. He’s afraid of a little

spider, and everyone says his costume looks more silly than scary. And when

Mrs. Wimpydimple tells a ghost story in the dark, Splat gets so frightened that

he tips over his jack-o’-lantern. But when the lights go back on, the entire class

is scared silly by a small, black, furry creature with a big pumpkin head.

Whooooo can it be?       

            ACTIVITY: Decorate the letter H for Halloween

BOOK: “It’s My School”  by: Sally Grindley

                        Synopsis —- His sister’s first day of school is Tom’s last day of true independence. On her                                                   first day of kindergarten, Alice isn’t really that nervous at all. It’s her brother,

Tom, who is upset — in fact, he’s downright mad! It’s his school, and why

should he have to share it with his annoying little sister?

            ACTIVITY: Work on their memory books and do a dance.

             BOOK: “Where Do Balloons Go?”   by: Jamie Lee Curtis

                           Synopsis —- Haven’t you ever wondered …

Where do balloons go                                                      when you let them go free?                                                     It can happen by accident.                                                      It happened to me.

Do they tango with airplanes?                                                     Or cha-cha with birds?                                                      Can plain balloons read                                                      balloons printed with words?

When one little boy accidentally lets go of his balloon, his imagination takes him on its journey.

            ACTIVITY: Explore with balloons

 

October 5, 2016 @ 11:20 Kindergarten

             BOOK: “One Witch”  by: Laura Leuck

                  Synopsis —-One witch, on a hill, had an empty pot to fill. So what does that one witch do?

She goes around to visit all her fiendish friends, naturally; two cats, three scarecrows,

four goblins, five vampires, six mummies, seven owls, eight ghosts, nine skeletons,

and ten werewolves. At every stop they contribute ghoulishly tasty ingredients until

the witch has enough to make a properly gruesome stew for her party. Then, of course,

she must send out her invitations; to the ten werewolves, nine skeletons, eight ghosts,

seven owls, six mummies…Count up and count down again as one witch gets ready for

a fun-filled monster bash. Come along, they’ve got a special surprise waiting just…FOR…YOU!      

            ACTIVITY: Make Pumpkins out of paper plates

             BOOK: “If You Give A Cat A Cupcake” by: Laura Numeroff

                     Synopsis —-If you give a cat a cupcake, he’ll ask for some sprinkles to go with it. When

you give him the sprinkles, he might spill some on the floor. Cleaning up will

make him hot, so you’ll give him a bathing suit . . . and that’s just the beginning!      

            ACTIVITY: Flannel board finger play “Five Yummy Cupcakes”

 

October 12, 2016 @ 9:30 3rd Grade

             BOOK: “The Horrible Spookhouse”

                       Synopsis —- A little girl lost in the woods wanders into a haunted house, where she

disappoints the witches, monsters, and other inhabitants because she refuses to

be frightened of them.   

            ACTIVITY: Halloween word search

             BOOK: “The little old lady who was not afraid of anything”   by: Linda Williams

                       Synopsis —- Once upon a time, there was a little old lady who was not afraid of anything!

But one autumn night, while walking in the woods, the little old lady heard . . .

clomp, clomp, shake, shake, clap, clap. And the little old lady who was not afraid

of anything had the scare of her life!   

            ACTIVITY: Decorate clown fish

             BOOK: “Bats at the Ballgame”  by: Brian Lies

                       Synopsis —- Hurry up! Come one’ come all! We’re off to watch the bats play ball! You’ll

never forget your first game: the green so green, the presence of heroes past,

and togetherness with family and friends, rooting for the home team. But you

think humans are the only ones who enjoy America’s national pastime? Grab

your bat’ the other kind’ and your mitt, and join these captivating bats as they

flutter off to watch their all-stars compete.

                       Synopsis —-In this spellbinding counting rhyme, one witch, two cats, three owls, and other

assorted creatures of the night add up to one mysterious Halloween. It’s just

enough to give gentle jitters to young readers counting their way from one to

thirteen on their way through the haunted woods

             BOOK: “The Big White Ghost” by: Gail Herman

                       Synopsis —- It’s Halloween, and the whole town dresses up in funny or spooky costumes

and gathers at the beach to watch a scary ghost movie together. When Clifford

investigates the big white movie screen afterwards, it falls on him, covering him

like a ghost! He runs through town, unintentionally scaring everybody. Emily

Elizabeth’s friend Jetta learns that it’s okay to admit to being afraid.
