Lowder Library Announces July Events!!

July 2016 @ Lowder

The Ladies of High Tea will be meeting Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 3PM and will be reading the book Friends, Lovers, and Chocolate by Alexander McCall Smith. This is the second in the Isabel Dalhousie series set in Edinburgh, Scotland.

When Isabel is asked to cover for vacationing Cat at her delicatessen, Isabel meets a man with a most interesting problem. He recently had a heart transplant and is suddenly haunted by memories of events that never happened to him. The situation piques her insatiable curiosity: Could the memories be connected with the donor’s demise? Naturally, Isabel’s friend Jamie thinks it is none of Isabel’s business. Meanwhile, Grace, Isabel’s housekeeper, has become infatuated with a man at her spiritualist meeting, and Cat brings home an Italian lothario. That makes for some particularly tricky problems–both practical and philosophical–for Isabel to unravel in this enormously engaging and highly unusual mystery.

The book we will be reading for August is: Miss Julia Paints the Town, the 9th book in the series by Ann B. Ross.

The sleepy town of Abbotsville is abuzz over the mayor’s plans to replace the old courthouse with luxury retirement condos. On top of that, several of the town’s husbands seem to have flown the coop. As usual, it falls to Miss Julia to save the day-and the courthouse- even if she has to expose a few of the town’s not-so- well-kept secrets.

The Lowder Regional Branch Library Chess Club meets every Saturday, from 10AM to 1245—sharp. In the event that the club is not meeting a sign will be posted as soon as possible announcing the cancelation.  Join us and learn how to play chess or to brush up on your skills.  Parents, chess is a game that will help build the brain and help your child with their future education—not to mention that it teaches patience as well.

Gamer’s Club is the Second Friday of the month 4PM-5PM. There is a limited number of slots available and pre-registration is required and a signed permission slip must be on file.  Parents must stay in the library while children are playing.  This month’s date is Friday, July 8, 2016.

On the third Friday of the month, 4PM-5PM, the Lowder Lego League, has fun in the meeting room. Due to fire regulations we have to also limit the number of participants for this event as well so pre-registration is required.  This month’s date is Friday, July 15, 2016.
