<p align="center"><strong>VOICES IN BLACK HISTORY SPEECH COMPETITION</strong></p>
<p align="center"> </p>
<p>            The Montgomery City-County Public Library will hold its inaugural “Voices in Black History” Speech Competition for school age children in grades four through 12 in the Montgomery City-County Public Library (MCCPL) service area, to include public, private, and homeschooled children.</p>
<p>            Contestants will research a famous individual in Black History and perform a 4 to 7- minute speech in costume and character. Scoring will be done using a Rubric by members of the community. Contestants will be scored in ten areas: organization, content: depth and accuracy, personal appearance/costume (dress of the period/era), language use: grammar, diction, &amp; voice, eye contact, interaction with audience, research effort, creativity, presentation length and Bibliography. Those wishing to participate should turn in a completed registration form and Bibliography to the MCCPL location they wish to represent in the Regional rounds.</p>
<p>            A complete copy of the rules and registration packets are available at all MCCPL locations and on the Library’s website: <a href="https://mail4.montgomeryal.gov/owa/redir.aspx?C=0c14ddba45bf4e5a9b5f16cd5370c04e&amp;URL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.mccpl.lib.al.us" target="_blank">www.mccpl.lib.al.us</a>.</p>
<p>Students will compete in one of three levels: grades 4-6, grades 7-9 or grades 10-12 in one of three Regional Rounds. Winners of the Regional rounds will compete in the Final Competition, Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the Juliette Hampton Morgan Memorial Library at 245 High Street.</p>
<p>            Students registering at Juliette Hampton Morgan, Coliseum Boulevard and Governor’s Square will participate in the “Downtown” regional at the Juliette Hampton Morgan Memorial Library, Monday, February 6 at 5 p.m. Those registering at Rufus Lewis, Pintlala and Rosa Parks Avenue will participate in the “West” regional to be held at Rufus A. Lewis Regional Library on Tuesday, February 7 at 5 p.m. The “East” regional event will be held at the E L Lowder Regional Library, Thursday, February 9 at 5 p.m. Participants will includes those registering at Lowder, Hampstead, Pike Road, Pine Level and Ramer library locations. </p>
<p>Prizes will be awarded to winners in each age group. Refreshments will be served at the final event.</p>
<p>Judges from the Montgomery community include: Tamara Cofield, Public Information Officer for the Secretary of State and President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; Helen Holston of the Montgomery Toastmasters; Michael Jackson, Alabama State Department of Corrections-Alabama Corrections Academy; Leslie Meadows of the Alabama Training Institute and Col. Susan B. Schlacter, Vice Commander, 42d Air Base Wing representing the Maxwell-Gunter AFB.</p>

Coliseum, Governor’s Square, Rosa Parks, Pintlala, Pike Road, Hampstead &#8211; Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday                                                                                  </p>
<p>Weigh-in begins 30 minutes after the library opens and ends 30 minutes before closing. Participants must form four member teams. During the ten week contest period, teams of four people each are tasked to lose ten pounds each (a total of forty pounds) to be considered for the incentives at the end of the contest. Each team that achieves its final goal is placed into a random drawing.
